Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met on Wednesday in Saint Petersburg the European Security and Defence Assembly, Robert Walter

 

The Meeting was held in the framework of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS member-countries.

 

The Parties emphasised the importance of the dialogue on the occasion of the effective organization of the work regarding preserving security in Europe. According to R. Walter, European Security and Defence Assembly is formed out of 10 countries in order to face all the modern challenges.

 

V. Lytvyn in his turn upheld the importance of the structure in EU that is responsible for the security matters and defense, as "the European countries and Governments are usually discussing the problems on the surface of economics."

 

V. Lytvyn stated that today the countries are mostly surviving the consequences though the causes remain untouched.

 

R. Walter agreed that the security issue is more the matter of responsibility of national governments. "But we suffered the transference to such a level that the solution of these problems needs common efforts", he declared and reminded that out of 27 EU member-countries 21 are NATO members and 4 cooperates with Alliance in the partnership frameworks, hence the European countries are searching new methods of security provision.

 

The Parties emphasised the necessity to continue interparliamentary dialogue on implementation of constant peace in Europe and it concerns not only EU countries but Ukraine as well.

 

As it was briefed before, Volodymyr Lytvyn, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stays Russian Federation on 6-8 April (Saint Petersburg City) and takes part in 34th Plenary Meeting of Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Countries-Participants.
